Description
- Claude-Joseph Vernet
- A mediterranean sea port with sailors letting down the anchor and unloading the cargo of a ship
- oil on canvas
Condition
The canvas has been relined.
The paint surface is well-preserved witha fine craquelure running throughout. No major damages to the work are apparent although there is a small old restored vertical split lower left measuring approximately 5cm.
Inspection under UV light reveals scattered minor spot retouchings to the painting, some infilling of the craquelure and minor strengthenings to the figures lower left. There are also some older retouchings to the sky, some of which have become slightly discoloured, but the extent of these is hard to ascertain because of the varnish covering the work.
Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition with a few minor knocks.
