Description

  • Anthony van Dyck
  • Portrait of a Lady, full length, standing with two children
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The actual painting is slightly warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas is relined and the seam is visble to the front in the centre. A few small repaired dents are visible, eg. next to the lady's head, in her dress and above her right hand. Other than that, the paint surface still seems in fair condition. Discoloured retouchings are visible along the edges, in the foreground and background, in the figures and drapery. UV confirms this and shows older and newer retouchings, as well as an unevely cleaned dirty varnish layer. Offered in a carved and giltwood frame, with chips.
