Description
- Nicolas Régnier
- An allegory of the five senses
- oil on canvas
Condition
The actual painting is slightly warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas is relined (glue). There are a few tiny dents visible in the lower left corner, as well as a small fold or crease in the centre, which has resulted in a few tiny paint losses and a repaired patch along the lower edge, but this is hardly noticeable. Furthermore, no major damages are apparent. The figure to the left has some retouchings in his arm and there is also some area of retouching in the dog, all because of thinness in the paint surface in that area. Inspection under UV light confirms this and furthermore reveals some other small areas of retouching here and there, eg. the hand of the figure in the centre, the arm of the figure to the right, in the background and centre. Offered in a modern giltwood frame, in good condition.
