Frans Francken the Younger and Studio

The support appears to consist of two horizontal panels, cradled to the reverse. The panel join is visible on the painting's surface due to the discolouration of the retouchings along it. The grain of the support is also visible, and some old retouchings to small old losses along the grain have also discoloured and are apparent upper right. There is an old restored split lower right measuring approximately 20cm, and a line of paint loss lower left, which measures approximately 15cm. and follows the path of the paint surface's craquelure, but appears secure. The paint surface is rather thin in the brown tones, particularly in the monkey and the standing figure in the foreground who have become somewhat translucent, and is slightly dirty. Inspection under UV light confirms the aforementioned retouchings and further reveals scattered retouchings to further small old damages, to the marble floor and a handful of scattered retouchings to the figures. Offered in a modern wooden frame in good condition with a few minor knocks.
