Description
- Philips Wouwerman
- a Landscape with a rider on a white horse and a boy carrying faggots
- oil on panel
Condition
The support consists of a single flat bevelled panel. The painting is a little less dark than the catalogue illustration suggests. The paint surface is secure though appears abraded in areas, particulalry in the darker tones of the lower half as well the right half of the horse. Inspection under UV light reveals some minor recent retouching on the varnish lower left. The varnish impedes satisfactory inspection but older retouchings are discernible throughout, for example in an areas below the horse and in parts of the sky. Offered in a modern wooden frame which is structurally sound.
