Condition

The supports consists of two horizontal panels which are flat and stable and have been cradled to the reverse. The catalogue illustration is representative of the painting. Under a thick yellowed varnish the paint surface appears secure though has become somewhat flat in areas and a little sunken. Retouchings are visible along the panel join, as confirmed by inspection under UV light as well as some retouchings upper left and along two diagonal scratches through the lower part of the figure of the artist. Removal of the present varnish and application of a new one would improve the overall tonality. Offered in a modern wooden frame in fair condition.
