Description

  • Franz de Paula Ferg
  • A kermesse with villagers by ruins
  • signed and dated lower right: F.Ferg.
inscribed with inventory number lower right: 1848

  • oil on copper

Condition

The actual painting is less green than the catalogue illustration suggests. The copper plate is secure and flat and attached (?) to a stretcher to the reverse. The paint surface is in very good condition, with only two small dents, one upper left and one lower right. The somewhat dirty, but clear varnish layer mostly impedes inspection under UV light, but does reveal tiny retouchings in the figures and sky. The paint surface has a dense craquelure pattern. Offered in a giltwood frame, with chips.
