Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas has been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in good condition. There is evidence of a thick discoloured varnish overall and there is a fine uneven craquelure overall, concentrated in the paler pigments, in keeping with the pictures age. Otherwise there is no apparent damage of loss of paint.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals the presence of the varnish overall. There is likewise some scattered minor retouching throughout the background. This is focused on the background hills, the horse behind and the red drapery. There is a horizontal tear measuring approx. 5 in. in the extreme lower left running parallel to the lower edge of the frame.
FRAME
Held in a gilt wood frame.
