Condition

The canvas is not lined. The surface of the work is in good condition. There are some small, yet noticeable losses in the canvas. The most apparent is the loss in the chest of the male subject. The others exist along the left edge, right edge and bottom edge. Under UV; there are some white fixspots along the right edge.

Catalogue Note

This paintings is a copy after the engraving by Jan Harmensz. M�ller (Adam Bartsch, Le Peintre Graveur, III, Vienna 1803, p. 288, no. 74) which is after the composition by Spranger in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna (inv. no. 2435).  Based on style and technique, it is possible that the present paintig was executed as late as the end of the 19th- or beginning of the 20th- century.
