  • Inscribed on a boxwood plaque on the nameboard  Abraham et Josephus Kirckman Londini fecerunt 1793.

The mahogany case with double stringing, the nameboard, faciaboard and cheeks veneered with satinwood with holly and ebony stringing and rosewood crossbanding, the lid with small shaped brass spine hinges, the five octave keyboard, FF to f3,, with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals, the soundboard with inset rose pierced and ca5rved with King David playing the harp flanked by the initials I. K., four brass-knobbed hand levers controlling two 8ft. stops, one 4ft. stop and the 8ft. harp stop, two pedals controlling the nag's head lid swell and the machine stop, the music desk with sliding central extension, on trestle stand with mahogany shelf.

Provenance

Previously sold by Messrs Phillips on 20th June 2000, lot 16. A catalogue footnote records that "During the early part of this century [20th century] the harpsichord belonged to Adelaide Lambe and it has been used for BBC broadcasts and public concerts".
