Catalogue Note

First edition of Fabrici's first published anatomical work. Professor of anatomy and surgery at Padua from 1592, Girolamo Fabrici (1537-1619) revolutionised the teaching of anatomy by designing the first permanent theatre for public anatomical dissections. His students included William Harvey.

Volcher Coiter made several important contributions to the study of human anatomy and was "the first to elevate comparative anatomy to the rank of an independent branch of biology" (Norman 496).
