first edition, including "The Four Seasons", complete parts for violino principale, violino primo, violino secondo, alto viola, organo e violoncello (2 copies), 6 parts in all (each 2 volumes in one, with separate title pages), folio (29 x 21 cms), engraved throughout, dedicatory letter by Vivaldi and four sonnets (4 pages) in violino principale, descriptive commentaries to all parts for Concertos I to IV ["The Four Seasons"],  eighteenth century red calf-backed marbled boards with manuscript label (violino principale), or later card wrappers, modern calf-backed slip case, red-gilt lettered spine [RISM V 2225; BUC, p.1047]

Catalogue Note

Rare: only two copies in the UK.  We have no record of the first editon of Vivaldi's celebrated "Four Seasons" being sold at auction.  Whilst eighteenth-century editions of Corelli regularly appear on the market, those of Vivaldi are very rare.
