Catalogue Note
Uncommon. This is an attractive manuscript of a complete song in Finzi's characteristically elegiac vein. 'On parent knees' is the second of six songs for low voice and piano posthumously assembled into the collection 'To a Poet', Op. 13a (the songs date from 1921 to 1956, the year of the Finzi's death). The words, translated from the Persian, are attributed to Sir William Jones (1746-1794). See lot 333.
