Catalogue Note

From the collection of Aaron Copland and given by him to the composer Phillip Ramey. Britten and Pears moved to the United States just before the outbreak of the second world war, famously sharing a house in Brooklyn with an unlikely combination of people, including W.H. Auden, Paul and Jane Bowles and Gipsy Rose Lee.
