Catalogue Note
Autograph music by Berlioz is rarely offered for sale at auction. Berlioz's Grand traité d'Instrumentation was a ground-breaking work on orchestration, of which he was the consummate master. Originally published in 1843, Berlioz included examples from his own works, including the "Scène aux champs" (1855 edition, p.124, example 28).
