Catalogue Note

Very rare. We know of only one copy outside the UK--in the Ira Brilliant Beethoven Center at San José University.  There is no copy in the Beethoven-Haus.  "Clementi's edition of the Op.119 Bagatelles is of the greatest importance" (Tyson, 1963).  The British Library has an apparently unique copy of the (unpriced) first issue of Op.119.  Beethoven records sending the Bagatelles  to Ries in his letter of 25 February 1823.  This is the first edition of the complete "Bagatelles": nos 7-11 had already appeared in Vienna.  Schlesinger's edition appeared at the end of 1823.
