  • Series of autograph diaries journals, mainly for the years 1825-1833, in French, together with a collection of some 20 early commonplace and copybooks, in fine contemporary bindings

A) bound and unbound autograph journals of her travels, 1) autograph diary for 1821, revealing her anguish at the loss of her husband ("...J'ai n'ai plus la seule personne que j'aimois. Dieu donnez-moi le courage de supporter la vie..."), 62 pages, 4to, blue boards, 4 January-4 May 1821;  2) "Journal de voyage de 1827", autograph, 6 unbound fascicles, 4to, Orléans, July 1827; 3) "Voyage en Dieppe en 1829, July-August 1829 4) "Voyage du Midi en 1829", c.40 pages, 12 October -23 November 1829; 5) for a visit to Palermo & Naples, 8vo, 3 fascicles, January-May, no year; and bound volumes: 6) for August-September 1825;  "Mon Journal de 1830.1831. et 1832", incomplete, describing the escape from France and visits to the Isle of Wight and Bath, c.20 pages, folio, half calf, 3 August-8 September 1830;  8) for her exile in Bath, September 1830;  9) for a journey to Austria & Trieste, January, no year; 910) "Journal du 1 Mars 1831 au 31 Juillet", Scotland, 1831; 11) "Journal du 1 Aout 1831 au 30 décembre 1831", Tuscany, 1831; together with 12) the Diary of her tour of Spain at the age of 7, written in Italian by a secretarial hand, green straight-grained green morocco elaborately gilt, c.1805;  together with



B) secretarial copies, some annotated by the Duchesse, of 13) "Voyages...en Normandie" (copy), August-September 1825; 14-15) "Journal de mon Voyage à Dieppe August and September 1825", ["...1826"] (copies), 20 pages; 16) together with scribal copies of the Duchesse's diaries & journals,1824 & 1829-1833, 2 volumes, 4to, boards, and 11 unbound fascicles;  17) Voyage de S.A.R. Madame 1828, oblong 8vo, quarter green roan, 18) Dance lists and dinner lists for her Voyage in the Vendée, June-September 1828; 19) A description of a conflict in the Vendée in 1832 ("La Pénicière"), many with corrections and alterations in ink, including a draft copy annotated and corrected by the Duchesse in pencil,



C) Fine collection of some 20 commonplace books and copybooks, many from the Duchesse's childhood, a few in her juvenile hand, including catechisms, mathematical exercise books, manuscript extracts from literature and Roman history and others



c.35 bound volumes, mainly 4to, with several unbound manuscripts, together with printed notices and cuttings announcing the Duchesse's arrivals and visits to various towns,
