Apostolischen Majestät Oberhofmeister, wirklichen geheimen Rath, General, Großkreuz, etc. etc. in tiefster Verehrung zugeeignet von Johann Herbeck", the music written by a professional Viennese copyist, in dark brown ink on nineteen (occasionaly 21, one hand-drawn) staves per page, 153 pages plus illuminated title, oblong 4to (248 x 320mm.), 20-stave paper, contemporary blue watered silk boards, staining on covers; together with 2 scribal manuscripts of "Lieder ohne Wörte" by Mendelssohn and Vicolai (3)

Catalogue Note

Constantin, Prince of Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst (1828-1896) was Lord Chamberlain, and thus in charge of the completion of the Vienna Opera House, where Herbeck was director from 1870 to 1875. Constantin was also the dedicatee of Bruckner's Fourth Symphony, He was married to the daughter of Franz Liszt's mistress, Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein.
