Catalogue Note

Charles II, duke of Parma (Charles-Louis de Bourbon, 1799-1883) amassed a substantial collection of liturgical works over forty years, including manuscripts and incunables, ably catalogued by Anatole Alès. The collection was bequeathed to his grandson Robert I, duke of Parma (1854-1907), who had another catalogue produced by Hanns Bohatta, published in 2 volumes in Vienna in 1909, shortly after Robert's death. In 1932 over 300 liturgical items were auctioned off in Paris; according to Seymour de Ricci's introduction to the sale catalogue, nigh on 100 items in the sale were unique items only known from this collection. The remainder of the library, about 2,000 volumes, was bequeathed to the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense in Milan by conte Paolo Gerli in 1936.

The other works are

Bohatta, Hanns. Der Katalog der Liturgischen Bibliothek des Herzogs von Parma in Schwarzau. Vienna:Verlag des Österreichischen Vereines dür Bibliothekswesen, 1903, offprint, with manuscript dedication from the author to Robert, Duke of Parma at head of upper cover
Bohatta, Hanns and M. Holzmann. III. Nachtrag zum Adressbuch der Bibliotheken der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie. Ibid., 1903, offprint, with manuscript dedication from Bohatta to Robert, duke of Parma
Bohatta, Hanns. Beitrag zur Buchgeschichte der herzoglich Parma'schen Bibliothek in Schwarzau am Steinfeld. [Vienna, c. 1900], typescript, 27pp., original wrappers, small tear at foot of spine
