Catalogue Note
Rare. We have traced only one copy of the first edition of the full score of Figaro at auction during the last thirty years.
The supposed first edition of the full score by Imbault, c. 1795, listed in Köchel, and of which no copy has ever been found, is regarded as a phantom by Fuld, who gives probable priority to the Magasin de Musique issue priced at 48 francs. The first edition in vocal score of Mozart's operatic masterpiece was published by Simrock in 1796.
