the first page of the full score, written in black ink on printed staves, laid out for full orchestra, annotated by Copland in ink, including for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in A, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, timpani, harp and strings, the violins marked divisi with only half to play ("Half (Div)"), comprising six bars in all, titled "Appalachian Spring (Ballet for Martha)"

Appalachian Spring was originally composed in 1943-1944 for chamber ensemble of 13 instruments; this manuscript contains the first page of Copland's orchestral version, made in 1954.
