Catalogue Note
In addition to his many works for guitar, Castelnuovo-Tedesco enriched the twentieth-century violin repertoire with a number of notable works. The jewel of this collection is the autograph of the technically demanding Sonata quasi una Fantasia, Op.56, formerly belonging to the dedicatee, the Hungarian violinist Adila Fachiri (1886-1962). She was the elder sister of Jelly d'Arányi, both being celebrated violinists and nieces of Joseph Joachim.
