The painting is in good condition. The canvas has been strip-lined (only along the overlapped edges), for stretching purposes, leaving the rest in its original state and is clear, taut and in good condition. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals some general retouching, mainly on the lower register. On the upper register, spots of retouching occur on the lighter-colored areas such as the skin and the white dress. All retouchings are apparent only with UV light. There are some craquelures on the paint surface but the paint layers are intact and stable. Colours of the actual painting is less blue, warmer with a stronger yellow hue, than in the catalogue illustration.
