The painting is in good condition, as is the canvas, which is clear and taut. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals only minor spots of retouching on the lower left margin, lower right background, and on the upper register (the dotted background, just above the foliage and the head of the right figure). These retouchings are only visible under ultraviolet light. Faint craquelure is found on the upper left and there is a faint horizontal stretcher mark in the middle left, but the paint layers are well-preserved. The background of the actual painting is a matte, metallic gold, which is not accurately represented in the catalogue illustration. The overall tones are brighter and the green shawl of the figure is brighter and more mint green in reality.
