Two gem-set brooches, Caldwell & Co

One set at the centre with a step-cut citrine, surrounded by leaves and emerald beads each set with a single-cut diamond, mounted in gold, signed JEC & Co and numbered; the other of bird design set with carved sapphires, a cabochon ruby, single- and circular-cut diamonds, highlighted with onyx, signed JEC & Co, J E Caldwell & Co and numbered.

Flower brooch stamped 585 for gold and Pt 950 for platinum, signed JEC & Co to the reverse, bird brooch signed below the tail and additionally signed J E Caldwell & Co on the reverse. Flower brooch numbered N6519, bird brooch L4399. Flower brooch: Citrine measuring approximately 33 x 23.4 mm, depth not measurable due to mounting, with very few scratches to surface. Emeralds well matched in colour with typical crystal inclusions, some surface reaching. Diamonds bright and lively. Bird brooch: stamped Pt 950 for platinum. Carved sapphires deep blue, well matched in colour. Onyx in good condition. Diamonds bright and lively. Pin fitting slightly stiff. Each with signs of normal wear to the metal, scratches consistent with use, in good condition.
