Designed as a series of Gothic style open work plaques, each accented with fir cone details, length approximately 180mm, French assay and maker's marks, accompanied by tooled leather case Mellerio dits Meller, 9 Rue de la Paix, Paris.

Condition

Weighing approximately 57 grams. Flexible and well articulated. Very stiff clasp. Light scratches to mount consistent with wear. Accompanied by leather case signed Mellerio dits Meller. In very good condition.

Catalogue Note

Mellerio dits Meller is a firm of jewellers that have been known in Paris for at least three generations.  The Mellerios were originally from Caraveggia in the region of Lombardy, Italy; their family can be traced back as far as the eleventh century.  They were originally traders, selling an assortment of wares including an inexpensive range of jewels and are one of the oldest family company in Europe.  François Mellerio (1772-1843) founded the firm situated on Rue de la Paix, the business was expanded later to Spain by his son Jean-François (1815-1896).
