Catalogue Note

The present lot was awarded the "Sotheby's Under the Hammer" prize at the Fresh Paint 4 Contemporary Art Fair in Tel Aviv.

Ido Abramsohn's photographs examine the relationships between mass visual culture and the way that reality is typically perceived and valued. The present work is from the series Diorama in which plastic resin models of Israeli soldiers and Palestinian insurgents and civilians used for amateur diorama modeling are photographed and enlarged. The new scale of the model's casts the original meaning of the images in doubt and enables us to scrutinize the stereotypical perception of the image of the "good" and "bad" soldier, as well as to examine local stereotypes of the Israeli as opposed to the Palestinian.

Ido Abramsohn was born in Jerusalem and received his BA in photographic communication at Hadassah Academic College in Israel in 2010. He lives and works in New York.
