Catalogue Note

This work is an important example of Gershuni's later works executed on canvas. Opposed to the saturated mixed media works created on paper from his earlier years, the artist uses heavy layers of acrylic gel to achieve a thick yet translucent material with a sculptural, three-dimensional quality. Painted while the artist was deeply affected by the death of the artist and friend Moshe Kupferman, this work is also important in the tribute Gershuni pays to Kupferman. The grey-purple is evocative of Kupferman's works as well as the systematic vertical wide brushstrokes which recall Kupferman's grid-like paintings.
