Catalogue Note

Fairman was born in Glasgow, but grew up in the United States, where he later taught at the National Academy of Design. Deeply influenced by the Hudson River School of painters, who were at the height of their popularity in the mid-19th century, Fairman's panoramic views of Palestine are imbued with great drama and atmospheric prescence. In the current work, Fariman's topographical accuracy is matched by a mastery of light which transports the viewer to the hills of Palestine.
