Condition

The board is in generally good condition. It may have been exposed to damp at one time; however, the surface shows no sign of warping. The picture surface is slightly dirty but otherwise in good condition. Under UV, there are no apparent signs of inpainting.

Catalogue Note

This work was painted while the artist was in Romania. Janco and his family emigrated in 1941 to escape religious persecution, travelling first to Turkey before arriving to Tel Aviv in February 1942.
