Catalogue Note

Seated in vajraparyankasana, a benevolent downwards-facing gaze upon his face, his facial features refined and sensuous, his lips in a subtle smile mirroring his stylized, elongated eyes and strong aquiline nose, his blue painted plaits gathered into a high jatamukata surmounted by a small figure of his spiritual progenitor Amitabha and surrounded by a five-pronged diadem inlaid with turquoise, wearing the elaborate jewelry of a bodhisattva adorned with semi-precious stones: necklaces, circular earrings, urna, necklaces, armlets, bracelets and anklets; his diaphanous dhoti incised with wave and floral patterns and clasped with lapis lazuli at his slender waist. The Bodhisattva's principal forearms are raised in manidharamudra in front of his heart, his raised left hand grasping a padma bud, and his raised right hand in vitarkamudra. He is seated atop a double foliate lotus throne abutted by triple bands of pearls, the base inscribed with a double vajra.
