Condition
Executed on buff colored wove paper. Hinged to mount at upper corners on verso. Minor craquelure in thickest areas of blue and yellow pigment. 1 inch mat stain around image due to prior windown mat. Nail head loss to sheet near upper right corner. Scattered studio stains on verso. Numbered 120 at lower left and no. 13 and 1367 on the verso (all seemingly by another hand). Colors are bright and fresh. Work is in good condition.

The present work relates to the projects for Mural decorations which Léger was commissioned to design for the "Ideal Embassy" Pavilion and the Esprit Nouveau Pavilion at the Arts Décoratifs exhibition at the Musée d'Art Décoratif in Paris in 1925 (see Jean Cassou & Jean Leymarie, Fernand Léger Dessins et Gouaches, Paris, 1972, no. 134, p. 98).
