WORKS FROM A DISTINGUISHED PRIVATE SWISS COLLECTION
The following works from this remarkably cohesive and personal collection are a wonderful testament to the family's exquisite taste and cultivated eye. The pattern of the family's acquisitions is a product of their view of the relative importance of different artistic currents, as well as their appraisal of the significance of individual artists. Each work represents a considered choice on the part of the collectors whose experience allowed them to rise above the dictates of fashion and uncover works which exemplify a movement such as Surrealism or a period.
Óscar Domínguez's Desir d'été is a striking example of the artist's œuvre and a true highlight of the collection. The attention to natural, organic form as well as the elegance of execution of Jean Arp's Evocation d'une forme humaine lunaire spectrale is of particular note, whilst Giorgio de Chirico's La grande torre II is an excellent representation of the artist's signature metaphysical style. Whilst each work provides an outstanding example of its type, together they demonstrate the family's natural flair and sensitivity to the art of collecting.
'It is difficult to describe in words the meaning of forms because it is precisely this emotion which is conveyed by sculpture alone.' Barbara Hepworth
