• frosted full plate brass movement, pivoted detent escapement, fusee with chain with maintaining power, three-armed compensation balance with three trapezoidal weights and timing screws, blued steel conical balance spring • silvered regulator type dial, Roman numerals to the hours, Arabic subsidiary seconds • double body mahogany box with slide to the lid over the glazed observation aperture, brass gimball, lead counterpoised bowl with screwed glazed bezel, brass case forme de tabtiere • dial signed
Condition
Movement is running while cataloguing, all functions appear fully operational, however it will require an overhaul in the near future to fully operational. The case and dial are showing some signs of aging but with a uniform patina all throughout. This is definitely a very rare example from the production of the famous chronometer maker Berthoud.

Catalogue Note
This chronometer is the only one known today bearing the signature "Berthoud Frères" with also a number lower than 150. It is almost identical to chronometer No. 215 of Berthoud Frères, described and illustrated in "La Longitude en Mer à l'heure de Louis Berthoud et Henri Motel", J.C. Sabrier, Antiquorum Editions.
