Marius Favre (1860-1914) was a legendary timer who successfully competed against Patek Philippe. In 1884 Patek Philippe broke the Geneva Observatory Contest record for a series of watches with 184.9 points. In 1893 the record was broken by Marius Favre with 228.78 marks. Patek Philippe spent the next two years preparing for the 1895 competition which they won with 230.14 points. It took Favre five years to develop the techniques necessary to beat this record. In 1900, he won with 257.32 points. Furthermore, he also took the first twelve individual places. This put him on the front page of every Swiss newspaper and ever since he has been considered a legendary Swiss precision timer. In view of this, the present clock might be one of the most accurate carriage clocks ever produced.
