Description

  • A LOT OF TWO 18K YELLOW GOLD WATCHES1866 AND 1907
  • diameters 54 mm and 43 mm
• both: nickel lever movement, 18k gold cuvette, white enamel dial, subsidiary seconds • the first: hunter cased, Roman numerals, presentation engraving to cuvette and interior of case back, milled band, case and cuvette signed the second: open-faced, Breguet numerals, engraved monogram to the case back, case, dial, movement and cuvette signed, with an associated 18k gold chain

Condition

Both movements are running at the time of cataloguing, however they may require service soon. The first: there are hairlines to the dial extending from the central arbor to 3: 15 and from the subsidiary seconds to 7:00 as well. The cuvette is engraved 'Made for AB Miller, Chicago', and the inside of the case back is engraved 'B Magoffin Sr, Harrodsburg, Kentucky'. This watch is number 29334. There are scuffs throughout the watch from surface wear, and the guilloché work on the covers is so rubbed that it is hardly visible. The second: there are no visible hairlines to the dial and it is in nice condition overall. The monogram to the case back is ETJ and there are scuffs throughout from wear. The movement is numbered 149890 and the case is numbered 264371.

The inside of the case back of the first watch is engraved 'B Magoffin Sr, Harrodsburg, Kentucky'. Beriah Magoffin was the governor of Kentucky from 1859 until 1862, and Magoffin County is named in his honor.
