The balance does oscillate when the watch is wound, but will need to be serviced. The movement plates are very clean. The dial has loss of finish and discoloration, particularly to the outer edges, which is only visible when removed from the case. There are light scratches and minor loss of finish to the dial. The case shows signs of general wear, with light scratches throughout. There is a very slight gap when the hinged back is closed, but overall the case structure has been well maintained. The pin to the hinged back should be replaced. The engraved inscription to the case back reads, J.B. NOBLE U.S.N.

When introduced in 1912, the Movado Polyplan was offered in 18K, 14K or stainless steel cases. The unique case design resulted in the Polyplan 400 caliber movement, which is angled at both ends to fit tightly in the case. The movement is also noted for having the compensation balance under the dial. This permitted the use of a larger balance wheel, which in turn increased the accuracy of the mechanism. Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of the Polyplan is the winding crown position, which is located at 12 o'clock.

It is believed that only approximately 1,500 examples of this model were produced. Examples in 18K white gold are very rare and highly sought after by collectors.
