- A FINE 18K YELLOW GOLD AND ENAMEL PAIR CASED VERGE WATCH MADE FOR THE TURKISH MARKETCIRCA 1813
- yellow gold, enamel
- diameter 36.5 mm
• gilt movement, balance cock pierced and engraved with scrolls forming initials of the maker, foliate pillars • white enamel dial, with Turkish numerals • the inner case hallmarked London, 1813 stamped with maker's mark AN, polished finish, the outer centered by a medallion of polychrome enamel depicting a seascape inhabited by a ship on a stormy sea against a bright translucent sunrise, partly hallmarked bezel for 1813, bordered by opaque periwinkel blue enamel punctuated by a motif of rosettes and ovals decorated with tones of red, white and pink enamel, wavy translucent red enamel interior bezels
Condition
The balance oscillates when the watch is wound, but the movement needs to be cleaned and serviced. The dial has a scratch near 3 and 4 o'clock, otherwise it appears intact. The bottom of the inner case has a slight scalloped-shaped dent from resting in the outer case. The outer case is in very good condition with a few light scratches. The central panel has had some enamel restoration and fairly expertly done, border in good original condition, minor losses to red enamel interior bezel. The movement is signed Edw.
