Condition
The movement is running and chiming in phase at the time of cataloguing, however it would benefit from service. The sound of the minute repeat is clear and quite nice with some background whirring noise. The moon-phase corrector is functioning however the day of the week corrector seems to stick. The dial does have slight hairlines between the subsidiary seconds dial and the day and month dials which are visible in the catalogue photograph. There is also a slight hairline between the day and the edge of the dial just above 9 o'clock. There is some discoloration toward the center of the date subsidiary. The case is in very nice condition and is quite heavy and crisp. Very good definition to the engine-turning. The monogram to the case back reads AJ, as mentioned on the Extract and Certificate of Origin. The Certificate of Origin has been folded for many years and has weakened or separated slightly at the fold lines.

Catalogue Note
During the 1880s, Patek Philippe increased its production of highly complicated movements to cater to the new wealth being generated in the Western hemisphere. During the core years of the Gilded Age, a fine watch was a sign of distinction and status. Highly complicated with a massive case and exquisite presentation box, the present watch is an ideal example of one of the most complicated Patek Philippe watches made at the end of the 19th century.
