Catalogue Note

Accompanied by original Breguet presentation case and winding key.

Abraham-Louis Breguet, famed for his ingenuity, is also accredited for inventing the carriage clock in 1795.  Breguet sold his first travelling timepiece to Napoleon Bonaparte.  These clocks were cased in metal-frames and glazed on all four sides and top, surmounted by a carrying handle.  The present lot was created around 1850.  This exceptional grande sonnerie clock with alarm is in fine original condition, further accompanied by its original box and key.
