Condition
This canvas has been relined and there is slight abrasion along the framing edge. The paint surface is stable and has been slightly flattened by the relining process, although it still presents a strong image. Under UV, the work is covered by a thick, milky varnish that obscures the image underneath. A few more recent retouches are visible on top of this varnish layer: one in the upper left corner and two in the bottom right corner. There are older, scattered, small touches evident beneath the varnish in the face and chest of the figure. These have been well-applied and the painting can be hung as is. In a carved and gilt frame.
