Condition
Overall condition is fine.
Some wear to the gilding particularly to the flat surfaces.
The patina of the bull is marked and scratched, as visble from the photograph.
The dial has been replaced, as well as the movement (originally, a bracket clock movement)

Jean-Joseph de Saint Germain, bronzier reçu maître en 1748.
Ce modèle de pendule célèbre le Triomphe de l'Amour, il est directement inspiré des Métamorphoses d'Ovide où, Jupiter, voyant la nymphe Europe ramasser des fleurs, prend l'apparence d'un taureau et l'enlève.
Il existe plusieurs variantes de ce modèle, comme celui conservé au musée du Louvre (inv. OA 5168), reproduit dans H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, vol. I, Munich, 1986, p; 125, n° 2.8.8. Une pendule similaire avec un taureau en bronze doré a été vendue chez Sotheby's à Londres, le 21 mars 2007, lot 68.
