of globe baluster form, chased with strapwork and foliage and engraved with contemporary Hebrew inscriptions one including the date 1747 on partly matted ground, hung by three chains and matching canopy

Catalogue Note

The inscription reads: "Uri Ben Gershon Hefez (Gentili)", for a member of this well-known rabbinical family.  The best known of the family was Moishe Ben Gershon Gentili (1663-1711), famous for his commentary "Melechet Machshevet", published Venice, 1710.
