Catalogue Note

The text around the outer rim translates as, "if the (Sabbath) table is properly set, the Angel of God shall answer amen", from the Ashkenazic Sabbath hymn "Yom Shabbat Kadosh Hu".  While early pewter Seder plates are relatively plentiful, Sabbath plates are rare, especially at this early date.
