Description

  • 14 karat gold, sapphire, ruby, diamond, bag
The bag composed of gold mesh, the clasp and front flap set with cabochon sapphires weighing approximately 31.00 carats, cabochon rubies weighing approximately 29.70 carats, and small round diamonds weighing approximately 5.35 carats, completed by a twisted gold link handle, gross weight approximately 243 dwts., numbered 62734, French assay marks.

Condition

Good condition. One of the jump rings attaching the ropetwist chain has opened slightly; re-soldering is recommended. The 8 semi-transparent light blue cabochon sapphires are typically included. The 18 oval and 15 round cabochon rubies are a rich, pinkish red and are typically included with surface-reaching feathers and minute cavities. 68 round diamonds approximately G-H color, VS-SI clarity. The bag appears to be comprised of an early 20th century gold mesh purse fitted with a mid-20th century frame and chain. The ruby studs and diamond fringe on the flap as also appear to be later-added. The frame bears a French obus mark with maker's initials CH. The obus mark was originally used in France to indicate items that were intended for export.
