Description

  • giltwood and walnut
  • 118cm high, 230cm wide, 88cm deep; 3ft 10½in., 7ft 6½., 2ft 10½.
with three loose cushions and two bolsters within a moulded frame carved with flowers, foliage and scrolls, now on a later sprung base;regilt

Condition

In overall good conserved condition.The gilding is nicely worn to the red bole. Very attractive detail to the carving. Joints sound and sturdy. Old very minor marks and chips commensurate with age and usage. There is a construction crack in the right scroll of the arm which can easily be filled or left. Hairline construction cracks at joints which are normal with age and usage and can easily be filled or left. There is some minor separation where the left arm meets the back but this is not too noticeable and can easily be filled.

Jean-Baptiste Boulard (1725-1789) received Master 1755.
He supplied furniture to Versailles as well as Fontainebleau and collaborated with the most important menuisiers of his time such as Tilliard, Sené and Foliot.
