the vase-shaped body cast with a wide frieze of Classical figures under lions' pelts, satyr mask and tendril handles, vine pattern lip, the detachable cover inscribed: :Ballymacad. War National. 1917,' the base stamped: 'ELKINGTON'

Light wear to highlights, marks good, small nicks to rim of cover, but overall very good condition and colour

Catalogue Note

The inscription refers to the bay gelding Ballymacad by Laveno out of Ballymacarney, owned by Sir George Bullough and trained by the Hon. Aubrey Hastings, which was ridden the jockey Edmund Driscoll to win the War National of 1917. The latter was held at Gatwick as a wartime substitute for the Liverpool Grand National.
