Description

  • silver-gilt, enamel
  • 46cm, 18in high
rising from a spume, scroll and vine stem to the campana-shaped bowl, applied on one side with a scroll, jockey and race horse cartouche and on the other with a laurel leaf cartouche, stallion finial, applied on one side at a later date with the enamelled metal badge of Geoge V's King George's Fund for Sailors

Condition

A good solid cup and cover with crisp casting but both cartouches have had erasures and the KGFS badge is a simple lapel badge which had been adapted and soldered onto the jockey and horse cartouche; the finial has had repairs to the foliage and to the stallion's legs but is now in need of restoration to make good further damage. Although almost certainly originally gilt the present gilding must be later. For further queries please contact the Silver Department directly on +44(0)207 293 5100
