Description

  • 40cm and 41cm, 15 3/4 in and 16in.
each perched on an oak-tree stump, reaching down to peck at an acorn, one encountering a squirrel among brightly-coloured moths, the other approached by a group of centipedes (some restoration), crossed swords marks in underglaze blue

Condition

one beak and most leaves restored, otherwise good. The minor decoration, of the leaves, flowers and insects, seems clearly later-added, but the birds and the squirrel themselves look possibly original, and it may be that these birds have been a little enhanced rather than entirely later-decorated.
