Description
- beech
each with an arched drop-in padded back, the top-rail carved with a scallopshell flanked by husks with downscrolled arms and bowed loose cushion and drop-in padded seat on fluted tapering legs terminating in leaf carved toupie feet, the frame carved with guilloche
Condition
In overall very good conserved condition. Colour of gilding less greenish and much more golden and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. The front legs have been reblocked. Old very minor marks and chips and wear to gilding, which is slightly dirty especially on the arms and would benefit from a light clean according to taste. Joints sound and sturdy. There are some hairline construction cracks at the joints commensurate with age and normal usage. which can be left The backs are painted and not gilded which is quite normal as would have been placed against the wall. The gilding on the feet is lacking and would benefit from some minor attention. Evidence of old very minor worm which appears to be no longer active. The front right inward curved arm support of one has an old restored break and one of the scallopshells on a top-rail has been restored. Measurements:
112cm. height, 50 floor to seat, 71cm. wide, 56cm. deep; 3ft.8in., 1ft.7¾in., 2ft.4in., 1ft.10in.
